Houyhnhnm Country

In the Land of the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver underwent a profound moral and psychological transformation that ultimately led to his exile and complete disillusionment with humanity.

Introduction to the Houyhnhnms and Yahoos: Gulliver arrives on an island where intelligent, clean, and virtuous horses (Houyhnhnms) rule, while disgusting, savage humanoid creatures (Yahoos) serve them as draft animals.

Study of language and culture: Gulliver learns the Houyhnhnms' language and tells his master about Europe, its history, wars, and customs. The Houyhnhnms, ignorant of the concepts of falsehood or evil, are horrified by the descriptions of human society.

Awareness of his resemblance to the Yahoos: Gulliver initially tries to distance himself from the Yahoos, considering them animals, but gradually, to his horror, he realizes that he is physically very similar to them. This horror reaches its peak when a young female Yahoo, attracted by his naked body while bathing, tries to embrace him.

Adoration of the Houyhnhnms: Gulliver develops a deep respect and love for the Houyhnhnms' way of life, based on reason, honesty, and community, and begins to despise human nature. He dreams of remaining with them forever.

Exile: The Houyhnhnms' general assembly decides that Gulliver, though intelligent but still a Yahoo, is a danger to their society and cannot live among them. His master, with regret, forces Gulliver to leave the island.

Return and Alienation: After building his canoe, Gulliver sets sail and is reluctantly picked up by a Portuguese ship. Returning to England, he struggles to adapt to life among humans, whom he now considers merely a species of Yahoos. He avoids his family and spends most of his time in the stables, interacting with his horses, longing for the land of the Houyhnhnms.
